The Future of Communications: Here We Go Again
As a future PR pro I find it interesting that I’m starting this career in a time where communications is changing. This isn’t the first time this has happened, once upon a time radio came along and joined newspapers, TVs joined radio, and now social media is joining the family to create a communications casserole that’s better than ever.
I know that this subject isn’t exactly hot off the press but I can’t help but think about how cool it is. I have been browsing entry-level positions out there for PR and they all talk about having social media experience. How lucky am I that this year I’ve had all my PR classes utilize social media? Like past students I’m sure I could have figured it all out, but I didn’t have to go through that. Good timing if I say so.
Browsing through twitter I found this great article, The Ten New Rules of PR, which talks about the press release. The press release is not dead, but it is updated. The article talks about how we need to properly utilize the press release in this new age of communications.
“The news cycle has changed, and with it, so must many of the rules of the game. With Web-based access to information, consumers have real choices for how they learn about the world around them – alternatives to the filter of mainstream media.” – Jeff Bullas
